My novice attempt at self-portrait photography. As a person who loves being behind the camera, directing and having control, I wanted to challenge that perspective.

Being the subject involves a certain resignation to explore different provinces of the soul, dimensions of being, that exist beneath the flesh. Most of the pictures above represent my reserved, calm energy. Although it is my natural state, I think I’ve gotten too comfortable playing the role of the director, fading in the background during dinner conversations, and forcing those around me to know me as one thing.
N O T A B L Y,
I am chaotic, playful, childlike, spontaneous, persistent, and adventurous. My soul floats above the dirt roads of Kansas, the humid air of Georgia, the pulsating culture of Mexico, the limitless paths of the United States, in being a triplet, a daughter, a giver, and too many beautiful things for my identity to be seen as static. Photography is a porthole into those dimensions and reminds me to loosen the grip on my soul and let it roam. Let it take those who get to know me to, let’s say, the pleasantly raw dirt roads of Kansas <3.
